Intro to Skating Camp (Ages 4 and Up)RecreationIs your child interested in hockey, figure skating, or simply learning how to skate for fun? No matter the reason, there’s a place for them at our Intro to Skating Camp led by the experienced coaches of the Sartell Figure Skating Club (SFSC). Skaters will learn skating basics such as how to fall safely, get back up, and move confidently on the ice. Skaters should plan to bring their own skates or to rent hockey skates from the Scheels Athletic Complex. SFSC has a limited number of skates that can be borrowed on a first come first served basis. Introduction to International Chess (all ages)EnrichmentChess embodies Art, Science and Sport. Challenge Yourself, Meet New Friends, Reduce Stress and Learn Strategy and Pattern Recognition. The class will be taught by Mr. Long Chen who has placed in the top 3 in Chess tournaments in Laredo TX, St. Cloud MN and Berlin Germany since age nine. His current USCF regular rating is 1965. Each Chess Session is 1 hour long. The first 45 minutes are used to teach the fundamentals, tactics and chess puzzles. The final 15 minutes is reserved for casual play and/or discussion. Parents and guardians attend the first and last class with their child, while children attend independently for the remaining ten sessions. This structure supports a smooth transition to Kindergarten, fostering both independence and readiness for school. National Karate Sartell Self Defense Class (Ages 5-7)RecreationBy following the 3 R's of Bullying (Recognize, Report and Refuse) National Karate helps students create and maintain a safe environment in situations where students need to defend themselves. Through martial arts training, children build confidence and become less likely to be targeted for bullying in the first place. Self-defense classes can teach children to defend themselves physically when the need arises. National Karate’s STOP program teaches students how to respond physically when necessary without aggressive techniques that can escalate a situation or result in punishment for the user. Student’s abilities, progress, and discipline make them more self-assured, preventing bullies from seeing them as vulnerable targets.
